[NEWS] VH1: SHOCKING MOMENTS WHEN GOOD SINGERS WENT BAD (AND SEXY) - #1 CHRISTINA AGUILERA

We Knew Her When...

Xtina is definitely not the only Disney alum on this list, and she even served on The Mickey Mouse Club alongside Britney Spears. At 17 she lent her voice to the song “Reflection” from the animated film Mulan, which earned the young singer a nomination for Best Song at the 1998 Golden Globes. Her 1999 self-titled debut album topped the charts with fun, catchy, inoffensive pop that didn’t get much darker than the inside of a genie’s bottle. Yes, “Genie in a Bottle” made her a teen music, going on to become the best-selling single of the year. Follow-up single “What A Girl Wants” was met with similar success, and also lent it’s title to an Amanda Bynes teen movie. In 2000 she released her own Christmas album, and even sang “The Christmas Song” at George W. Bush’s White House.
But Then:

By 2002 she was “Dirrty”! Similar to Janet Jackson before her, Christina fired her old management and took greater creative control on new album, Stripped. The 21-year-old began co-writing “down and dirty” songs intended as a move away from her previous teen-pop sound. She penned the song “Miss Independent” during this period, and even though it went on to become a single for Kelly Clarkson, the message was clear: Christina was in charge!
“When you’re part of a pop phenomenon, you have so many opinions shoved down your throat,” she was quoted as telling USA Today at the time. “People try to tell you what you should do, how you should act, what you should wear, who you should be with. At the time things started happening for me, it was popular to be the squeaky-clean, cookie-cutter pop singer. But that role didn’t speak to me, because it’s so boring and superficial.”
Her look changed greatly in this period, as she dyed her familiar blonde dresses black, got several tattoos and piercings, and began posing nude on magazine covers. She dubbed this provacative new persona “Xtina”, and it caused quite a stir among fans used to her more conservative incarnation. To make the message even more obvious, the lead single was titled “Dirrty” and featured a vid which has regularly been ranked among the raunchiest of all time.

[POLL] CHRISTINA AGUILERA, GWEN OR SHAKIRA: VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE 'VOICE' COACH

Wait, we already have to say goodbye to Gwen Stefani on The Voice? On Tuesday (Oct. 14), it was announced that original coach Christina Aguilera -- who sat out the last two seasons, while Stefani and Shakira kept her swivel chair warm -- will return for season 8 early next year.

Only Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have stuck around for every iteration of the show, with CeeLo, Usher and Pharrell Williams trading off, and this latest swap has us wondering: Who is the best female judge to grace the Voice stage?

Aguilera is the veteran, putting in four seasons already, with her fifth on the way. Shakira coached on seasons 4 and 6, while Stefani has barely clocked three weeks in her red chair. In our ranking of all the singing competition judges -- which was published before Stefani's Voice debut -- Shakira came in at No. 11, while Aguilera was No. 18. But who is your favorite? Or do you have a better suggestion for the fourth female seat in the future? Vote below or share your write-in picks, and make sure to explain your choice in the comments section.

[NEWS] CHRISTINA AGUILERA RETURNS TO HER THRONE ON SEASON 8 OF #THEVOICE

After taking off two consecutive seasons -- during which time Shakira and Gwen Stefani filled in for her -- original coach Christina Aguilera is returning to The Voice.

Since she last sat in the giant red swivel chair, Aguilera got engaged to Matt Rutler earlier this year and gave birth to their daughter, Summer Rain Rutler, in Aug. 2014.

Vote: What's the Best Collaboration Between 'Voice' Coaches?

When Aguilera returns to The Voice, she'll rejoin longtime coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine -- but this will be the first season she's competing against Pharrell.

Pharrell, incidentally, is currently finishing up work on Stefani's upcoming third solo album. The Voice: It's just one big happy family, right?

At least for the most part. Cee Lo Green officially quit The Voice earlier this year, but given his recent parade of troubles, it's safe to guess NBC wasn't too eager to welcome him back.

[NEWS] CHRISTINA AGUILERA'S DEBUT ALBUM TURNS 15!

1999: the year when pop music ruled the world. From the United States to the UK, the genre was inescapable on music charts, televisions shows, the radio and even our favorite magazine covers. The brink of Y2k gave way to the fresh faces of pop that quickly became music legends of our time: Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, *NSYNC and Christina Aguilera. All but Aguilera were already dominating the international charts, with the singer being the last of the four to release her debut. She was introduced to the music scene as part of the 4 Pop Blondes, which included Spears, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore. The battle of becoming the the “It” girl in music at that time was a tough one, but nobody could hold the then-19-year-old down (never can, never will)!

Prior to her debut album, many knew Aguilera as a bright-eyed young girl from from 1993′s The New Mickey Mouse Club. Released just eight months after Britney Spears’ iconic …Baby One More Time, at first Christina’s debut was placed in the shadows of pop music’s first princess. But the worldwide success of the four singles that emerged from Christina Aguilera proved that she was a star all her own. While Spears was looked at as the sweet girl next door with her endearing personality, Aguilera showed early signs of her “Xtina” alter ego, as she was unafraid to be mainstream music’s sexualized and rebellious bad girl. Both stars may have had a lot on common at the time, but there was no doubt that Christina Aguilera was bound to achieve a status that placed her within the ranks of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.

During this musical era, record labels were focused on creating flash-in-the-pan pop phenomenons. Nonetheless, the raw talent that shone throughout Christina Aguilera saved the album from becoming too candy-coated.

Today we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Christina’s self-titled debut album, which was released on August 24, 1999, and gave rise to an international superstar — as well as the birth of Legendtina. (SAY!)

Today we recognize Christina Aguilera as a light-hearted and fun album that is weighted with trendy, late ’90s dance-pop elements, anchored by the singer’s soulful vocals. It is succinct and jam-packed with classic pop hits and underrated fan favorites, the complete opposite of — what has now become her M.O. — lengthy projects like Bionic and Lotus. The album starts off with “Genie In A Bottle,” the first single and arguably the singer’s signature hit. As soon as the Steve Kipner and David Frank-produced piano notes kick in, the tune instantly brings you back to the summer of 1999, when it was on constant rotation on Total Request Live (the video spent 65 days on the show’s Top 10 chart).

From her velvety vocals to the song’s sexual undertones (which she would quickly become infamous for later on in her career — “Sex For Breakfast,” anyone?), “Genie In A Bottle” separated Aguilera from her more bubblegum-pop counterparts. The song was so popular, that the singer later created two versions of it — a Spanish version for her first Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo (released in 2000) and an electronic version from her 2008 greatest hits album Keeps Getting Better.

Christina Aguilera – “Genie In A Bottle”

Next up is a song that gave the world an insight to what Christina Aguilera was really all about, both as an emerging artist and as a young woman. “What A Girl Wants,” the album’s second single, is an airy mid-tempo number that is absolutely perfect for karaoke nights! The single was also another TRL favorite and followed “Genie In A Bottle” as a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper. Aguilera is always known for her bold and sometimes over the top vocals, but this song (which focused on her bright upper register) showed that she could also be delicate.

The song lyrics (“I only looked but I never touched/’cause in my heart was a picture of us/Holding hands, making plans”) reveal an independent, strong woman who knows what she wants from a relationship, both sexually and emotionally. The message is quite subtle, but it is something that has been interwoven throughout the diva’s entire career.

She may not have realized it back in 1999, but “What A Girl Wants” laid the foundation for future empowering songs in her repertoire like “Can’t Hold Us Down,” “Fighter,” and “Let There Be Love.”

Christina Aguilera – “What A Girl Wants”

While many of the songs off Christina Aguilera showcased her flirty and sensual side (the usual formula for female pop artists during that time), “I Turn To You” focused solely on her impeccable voice. The song set the diva apart from the sea of blondes, as her strong point were slower songs more than fast-paced dance tracks. The ballad, penned by legendary songwriter Diane Warren (who has worked with artists like Celine Dion, Toni Braxton and Whitney Houston), was just the beginning of many songs dedicated to her mother and inspiration Shelly, who survived domestic abuse from Aguilera’s estranged father.

Christina Aguilera – “I Turn To You”

Apart from her stunning vocals, what made Christina Aguilera so unique back in 1999 was her ability to pull from various genres in order to create her own special sound. Tracks like “So Emotional,” “Love For All Seasons” and “Somebody’s Somebody” leaned more towards R&B and soul which, at the time, was mainly used by strictly-R&B groups like En Vogue, SWV and Destiny’s Child. Aguilera’s love for soulful aesthetics followed her later on in her career, specifically with 2006′s Back To Basics, an album with a throwback vibe that celebrates jazz and blues.

Christina Aguilera – “So Emotional”

Christina Aguilera definitely doesn’t stray away from sexual themes, with songs like “Come On Over (All I Want Is You)” and “When You Put Your Hands On Me.” When the former song was released as the fourth and final single, it was clear that Aguilera was taking the creative reigns of her image. Gone was the cookie-cutter blonde bob and the modest wardrobe; the singer transformed into a fierce diva with bright red extensions, a new belly ring, revealing outfits and sexy dance moves!

Her third #1 on the Hot 100, the single also became controversial, thanks to the singer’s duet performance with Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, which sparked rumors that the two were an item.

Christina Aguilera – “Come On Over (All I Want Is You)”

While the majority of the songs on Christina Aguilera are classic bops, there are others that don’t quite fit. One of them is the gospel-tinged “Blessed,” which always seemed too try-hard and way too clean cut. Another is ”Love Will Find A Way,” whose funky R&B grooves would be just fine if the song wasn’t a complete Mariah Carey ripoff. From the “shooba-di-doo” ad-libs to the melodic harmonies, it was a little too reminiscent of Carey hits like “Emotions” and “Dreamlover.”

One other track that seemed like a complete throwaway is the slightly cheesy ”Reflection.” It was obviously more of a promotional tool to boost the singer’s popularity, as it was released a year prior as part of the soundtrack for Disney’s Mulan. But “Reflection” does get well-deserved praised for being the reason that Christina Aguilera was even created; the success of the Golden Globe-nominated tune helped to fund the project. It was a pretty smart move on her label’s part, thanks to her ties with The Mickey Mouse Club. But looking back, the ballad did not reflect (punny!) the true artistry of Aguilera.

Christina Aguilera – “Reflection”

Needless to say, Christina Aguilera was a chart success. The album debuted at #1 and went on to be certified eight-times Platinum in the US alone. Aguilera’s debut LP also snagged the singer her first Grammy, for Best New Artist at the 2000 ceremony. The clean dance-pop and R&B fusion was perfectly crafted to make an impact for the pop history books alongside albums like Millenium and ...Baby One More Time. It’s also evident that Christina’s first outing influenced the new generation of pop acts such as Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Fifth Harmony. Three years later, Auguilera followed up with her also iconic sophomore album Stripped, which granted her the title of “The Voice of Our Generation.”

In 1999, many pop acts were molded by their record labels in almost a robotic manner and Aguilera almost became victim to that herself, but her defiance led her to become the rule-breaking legend that she is today. The release of Christina Aguilera proved to the world that the future diva has an undeniable talent that would last not just for all seasons, but for all time.

[NEWS] V MAGAZINE: CHRISTINA AGUILERA IS GIVING BIRTH (PHOTOS INCLUDED)

IN A VMAGAZINE.COM EXCLUSIVE, CHRISTINA AGUILERA CHECKS IN, FEELS FABULOUS

August 1st, 2014. Christina Aguilera has quite a lot to be excited about in these upcoming months. She's engaged to be married, will return to judging The Voice on next year's Season 8, and she's happily working on a new album. Add to all that a brand new baby sister for her six-year-old son Max, and she's looking at a very full plate. Then again, when, since her first rise to super-stardom back in 1999, hasn't she? That drive, along with a unique devotion to transition, is exactly what keeps just about everyone interested in all 5'2" of the phenomenally-voiced Aguilera. Whether it be for her music, her fashion sense, her personal life, or her physique, she hasn’t left the headlines in over a decade, and still, she concedes, nothing can hold her down ("never can, never will"). Xtina's taken her own public image's iterations as impetus for creative outlet, unafraid to show her fans not only her triumphs, but her struggles, in each artistic evolution—and that includes how she presents herself to the media's hydra-like heads. Feeling especially inspired by her own recent pregnancy (the ultimate transition) Aguilera wanted to capture some blissful moments before she gives birth, calling on photographer Brian Bowen Smith, whose work she has admired for some time now.

Giving VMagazine.com the exclusive new images, she tells us, "As a woman, I'm proud to embrace my body through all stages of life, staying fearless and confident in surrendering to the unknowns the future has in store.” Beautiful.

[NEWS] CHRISTINA AGUILERA'S BABY SHOWER

Christina Aguilera, who is pregnant with her second child, and fiancé Matthew Rutler celebrated their daughter’s imminent arrival on Saturday with a co-ed baby shower held at the home of the singer’s stylist.

Only about 50 family members and close friends attended the intimate gathering, which was humorously punctuated with a cake decorated with a figure of a woman giving birth on a rug atop a hardwood floor, the baby’s head (complete with a full head of hair)
Poking out from whence it came.

And yes, it was as awesome as it sounds.
“Push Xtina, push,”

The writing on the cake encouraged. A source tells E! News that the adults only gathering lasted well past midnight, and the expectant guest of honor who wore a garland of flowers in her hair and looked radiant in a flowing white dress “wasn’t tired at all.” Lots of flowers, candles and tea lights made for a fun, festive setting.

Partygoers feasted on breaded chicken, veggie burgers, sliders, fresh salads. Tomatoes and burreta and mini grilled cheese sandwiches. Cocktails and mocktails were served, all boasting cute occasionapropos names such as Baby bellini, Mommy Moonshine, It’s Almost Time and Pink Cheek.

The group played both traditional shower games and a few “racy games” as well.

“Christina is doing great,” our source said. “she’s really glowing. She’s feeling great and isn’t tired at all. She can’t wait to meet her baby girl.’

[NEWS] PREGNANT CHRISTINA AGUILERA LOOKS READY TO POP

The "Dirrty" singer stepped out in Studio City, Calif., Saturday with her fiancé, Matthew Rutler, and her son, Max Bratman. Aguilera, 33, dressed her big baby bump in a black maxi dress and a DKNY crop top.

The trio enjoyed an afternoon of mini golfing, and at one point, Aguilera's son adorably rubbed her belly.

Aguilera isn't letting her pregnancy slow her down; the next day, the group visited a theme park. "Such a beautiful day with the family at #UniversalStudios!" she tweeted. "Thanks so much for the hospitality!"

(The family toured the Hollywood location—but perhaps sometime after Aguilera gives birth, they'll travel to Orlando to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, including Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.)

Though they had a great time together as a trio, Aguilera is ready to welcome her mini-me. "I'm really excited to meet our baby girl," she said in June. "This has been a very easy and enjoyable pregnancy."

[NEWS] CHRISTINA AGUILERA'S 2ND PREGNANCY IS 'VERY EASY'

Even a girly girl loves her video games — just ask Christina Aguilera.

“It’s a great way to have fun with the family,” the pregnant singer, whose own Mii character can be seen in the new interactive game Tomodachi Life for Nintendo 3DS and 2DStells, tells PEOPLE.

“My favorites are the classics like Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong. They’re iconic characters that even my son recognizes.”

At home, Aguilera, 33, often plays with Max, 6½, in her game room arcade (complete with pinball machines). “Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is my favorite to play with my son. He beats me every time as the ghost,” she says.

The former Voice coach — who is expecting a baby girl with fiancé Matthew Rutler later this year — will soon have less time for gaming, but that’s something she’s looking forward to.

“I’m really excited to meet our baby girl,” Aguilera shares. “This has been a very easy and enjoyable pregnancy.”
